Hungry Minds - App Design

Hungry Minds is a series of card games designed to be educational tools for children from JK-Gr.5.

The Scope: Create an app for Hungry Minds
Timeline: 3 weeks (Nov 2019)

Project Goals


1. To create an app that represents the board games we currently have
2. To create an app that will be engaging for the children and the parents
3. To create an app that will be played by children from junior kindergarten to gr 5

The Problem

Currently, parents often lack the time necessary to support their child with their school work. And subject specific educational tabletop games engage students but are costly, cumbersome and time consuming to learn.


THE PROCESS

Research

1. We started the research phase by conducting online surveys. These gave us insights into how parents allowed their children time using apps, the importance of learning based games, and the amount of time devoted to extracurricular activities.
2. We moved onto conducting observational interviews with the kids playing the physical board games.
3. Lastly, we performed a competitive and comparative analysis to see how Hungry Minds does compared to its’ competitors.

Analysis

1. Based on the data we were able to collect, we were able to create 3 personas.
2. Using our primary personas, we created customer journey maps to pinpoint the opportunities of the app.

Design

1. Sketching out as many Lo-Fis as possible while determining the information architecture of the app.
2. Mid-Fidelity ideation and testing based on pre-determined heuristics.
3. High fidelity designs.
